Some of the potted plants in Walkerton are set to be replaced by a variety of crops this summer.
Downtown business owner Darren Holm is behind the initiative that will see the Municipality of Brockton's flower beds show what types of crops are grown in the area.
The pots would feature corn, white beans, soybeans, wheat, garlic, and potatoes, with a sign describing what the crop is and how much of it is planted in the region.
"We were looking at the marketing program here in Walkerton and they're aiming at fishermen and tourists," says Holm, who owns Holm Graphics. "We recognize most of our customers are the agricultural type of folks and we felt it would be effective to market to them and make them feel welcome here in town."
According to the 2011 Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Census, agriculture in Bruce County provided 24,705 people with full-time employment.
