Bruce Telecom Sale Fails

The proposal to sell municipally-owned Bruce Telecom has failed.

Kincardine council voted unanimously last night to bring the telecommunications company back into the municipal fold.

Chief Administrative Officer Murray Clarke says there will be no further discussions with Bragg Communications, the parent company of Eastlink.

Council also passed a motion that directs the mayor, staff and their legal advisors to move forward with the Arbitration Protocol and make an attempt to recover $1-million from Bragg Communications regarding the negotiations.

The federal Competition Bureau rejected the proposed sale last summer because of perceived competition problems.

Council decided to make another effort earlier this year, but that was not successful.

Mayor Anne Eadie says she is sad, but relieved that the controversial topic had come to an end.
