Kincardine Resident Points To Gaps In Nuclear Emergency Planning

A community activist says the business of nuclear emergency planning is inconsistent, lacks clarity, is not timely and is poorly accessible to the public.

Jutta Splettstoesser presented Kincardine council last night with some possible scenarios based in the Kincardine area.

She says the Davidson Centre is the only assessed evacuation centre in the Municipality of Kincardine. Splettstoesser adds that 3,829 cars and 9,572 evacuees could gather there for decontamination by Bruce Power.

Splettstoesser says a Kincardine high school principal has no updated nuclear emergency plan from Bruce Power. The only plan he showed her was from the previous operator.

She also told councillors that there are large knowledge gaps as they relate to decontamination, evacuation, shelter locations and notifications.
