Bruce Power’s Environment Fund is supporting research and improvements to Spring Creek, near Hepworth.
The Hepworth Anglers Club has received a donation of $22,600.
Club members, along with Dr. James Hamilton from Wilfrid Laurier University have been conducting tests and making improvements to the creek over the past few years to help rainbow trout and salmon during spawning.
The creek, which is formed by a series of natural springs, meets with the Sauble River and eventually empties into Lake Huron, creating an important habitat for fish reproduction.
Over the years, the Hepworth Anglers Club has made improvements to water oxygenation, rock beds and silt removal systems.
Dr. Hamilton and his students continue to gather data on the ground-fed creek, which is a rarity in southern Ontario.
Bruce Power’s donation will assist with monitoring devices for Dr. Hamilton, so his research team can continue to help the Anglers Club improve the health of the creek.
