Invasive Weed Spraying At Kincardine Beaches

The Municipality of Kincardine will be spraying the invasive common reed along the shoreline throughout this month.

The municipality will place signs on the street in the general area where spraying will occur.

Any health hazard should be past once the chemical dries, but people should wait 48 hours before they enter the area, and they should keep pets away as well.

Enviro Masters from Ripley will do the job, and ensure all workers are certified in their capacity of their positions to handle and apply herbicides under the province's Pesticide Act.

Herbicide application is always weather-dependent and will only be applied when conditions are appropriate.

Visible effects are gradual wilting and yellowing of the plant that advances to complete browning of aboveground growth and deterioration of underground plant parts

A combination of herbicides and prescribed burns are used to control the aggressive Phragmites.
