Goderich Prepares to Welcome Refugee Families

A Sudanese family that has been living in a Kenyan refugee camp for about 12 years, will be moving to Goderich later this fall thanks to a sponsorship from a group of churches.

Lakeshore United Church launched the Welcome Project in June.

The church has announced that a family including 2 parents, 10 children, a grandmother, and an uncle will arrive in November.

The family has been living at one of the worlds largest refugee camps (Kakuma Refugee Camp)

A large number of volunteers will be needed for many duties including food, transportation , orientation, and health.

Church sponsors, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada are sharing the cost.

The Hellen Agok Manytil and Peter Maguet Dheil family will also need accommodation.

Meantime, a meeting in Owen Sound tomorrow evening will focus on sponsoring a refugees in Owen Sound.

The meeting starts at 7 at the chapel of St. Andrews Presbyterian church.
