The future of Restorative Health Care in the region is about to get a lot better.
A new Integrated Regional Program has been agreed upon that will see a distribution of restorative care beds and services to patients in both Grey and Bruce Counties.
Paul Rosebush, President and CEO at South Bruce Grey Health Centre says they'll be adding restorative care beds at the Grey Bruce Health Owen Sound site and the Hanover District Hospital as part of a new regional program.
"Fortunately with the support of the CCAC (Community Care Access Centre) and our partner hospitals at Grey-Bruce Health Services and Hanover and District Hospital we all came up with what we think is a viable option for patients in our area," says Rosebush.
The previous restorative care program was not funded or backed financially by the government and was a pilot project. This new initiative will see four beds added to Grey-Bruce Health Services along with additional beds at Hanover and District Hospital.
"It really means distributing the beds across Grey and Bruce Counties to make sure that care is closer to home but also to spread the costs of care across all the hospital corporations in Grey and Bruce Counties," adds Rosebush.
The number of beds at South Bruce Grey Health Centre's Chesley site will be reduced as part of the new program.
Rosebush says in the end, the new regional program adds capacity without sacrificing acute care beds at local hospitals.
