The Bruce County Public Library is getting into the Christmas spirit by giving back to the community.
The annual "Food for Fines" initiative is a way of helping out library patrons, and those in need within Bruce County.
Library patrons will be able to have some of their overdue book fines waived simply by bringing in non-perishable food items according to Bruce County Library Director Melissa Legacy.
"Patrons can come in to the library if the have overdue fines, they can give us a non-perishable food item and we will waive $2 for each item that they bring in, up to a maximum of $10," says Legacy.
All non-perishable food donations will go to local food banks and charitable organizations throughout Bruce County.
The Food for Fines initiative is something they strive to every year at some point throughout the year.
"This year we decided to do it in December leading up to the Holiday Season so that we could contribute to local community food drives, or any charitable organizations in our community," adds Legacy.
The Food for Fines initiative runs all this week at all Bruce County Public Library branches.
