Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says Ontario should ensure the province is truly the best place to retire with comfort and dignity.
He says with the number of seniors in Ontario to double over the next two decades, it's disturbing to see the government cut seniors' essential services and programs.
He spoke at Queen's Park about the importance of investing to keep seniors healthy, active, and engaged.
However, he says the government has instead cut OHIP physiotherapy care, cut home care for seniors who want to stay at home, cancelled seniors tax credits, increased hydro bills, and tried to increase senior's drug costs.
Walker applauds a plan to develop a strategy for dementia care, but says there are still 24,000 seniors in Ontario waiting for a nursing bed today.
Walker says he continues to hear from concerned families about proper oversight and protection for long term care residents.
Walker marked Seniors Month by asking the government to commit to building needed nursing beds , fix home care and invest in the system to handle future seniors needs.
