A Goderich man is facing at least ten charges following an out-of-control ride in a stolen tow truck.
OPP officers received information around 9:30 last Thursday night that a tow truck was travelling at a high rate of speed, crossing into both lanes of traffic and venturing into both the south and north ditches on Airport Line in the Municipality of Bluewater.
An OPP cruiser had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision when the tow truck entered into the oncoming lane into the path of the police vehicle. The officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop. Several other vehicles were forced to take evasive action to avoid colliding with the tow truck.
Officers followed from a distance where they witnessed the suspect drive through one stop sign, and leave the road twice and drive into farm fields. The wild ride ended when the truck hit a tree in a ditch.
The driver was immediately arrested and taken to the Huron OPP Detachment for tests conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert. It was determined that the driver was impaired by a drug.
Further investigation revealed the tow truck had been stolen earlier in the day from a business in Central Huron.
29-year-old Cory Hodges from Goderich remains in custody, and makes a video court appearance Wednesday.
Charges against him include Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police, Impaired Driving by Drug, Fail to Remain at Scene of Collision, and Drive Motor Vehicle with Suspended Licence.
