The Municipality of Central Huron is in the process of updating its zoning bylaws.
Planner Monica Walker-Bolton says one of the changes they're looking at would accommodate trailer parks and campgrounds that have evolved over the years to year-round residences.
Walker-Bolton says the current zoning is very vague in that it states trailer parks should only be operated seasonally and should not be used as a year-round residence. However, it does not specify a date at which trailer parks should close.
The solution they're proposing is the creation of a new zone that recognizes people have been living in these trailer parks year-round and allow them to continue doing that.
Walker-Bolton adds that zoning would not be available to new trailer parks and they would have to close between November 1 and April 1.
Walker-Bolton adds the issue of permanent residents of trailer parks paying taxes for things like education has been raised, but it was pointed out that trailer parks are assessed by MPAC and education tax is not a municipal matter.
