West Grey Police Services Board has hired a new chief of police.
Robert G. Martin will replace Rene Berger who recently retired.
Martin has nearly 30 years of municipal police service with York Regional Police.
He says he believes in community engagement and partnerships with police services to ensure public safety.
He will spend the next few months getting to know the community's needs.
Martin takes over his new position Thursday.
His career profile is diverse, including expertise in collision investigations and reconstruction, his secondment with the RCMP as a training facilitator for the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, and supervisory positions in Professional Development and patrol operations.
He testified before the Canadian Senate Human rights and Legal issues Committee as an expert witness during the hearings on Bill C2, Tackling Violent Crime.
He has completed a Police Leadership and Management Development program and holds a Masters Degree in Leadership Studies.
