Still No Positive ID on Man Found Dead Near Port Albert

Huron County OPP are still trying to identify a man who was found dead on a beach just north of Port Albert.    The body was found along the shoreline October 15th.

Despite an exhaustive investigation, widespread media coverage, and over a hundred public tips, investigators have not yet been able to confirm the man's identity.

Investigators did learn that a journalist in Northern Ontario captured photos of the victim near Espanola in September.

Police says the victim told the reporter he was 57-year -old Mitchell Nelson travelling from Alberta to Ontario.   He said he was heading to London to visit family and friends, and indicated he also had relatives near Ottawa.

Investigators are confident it is just a matter of time before someone will come forward to help solve the mystery.

Police want to talk to anyone who might know anything about the man.

He's described as a white middle aged male, with an average to medium build.   He was balding with grey hair and a thin moustache.

He was wearing a Blue Fluid lifejacket, a black fleece pullover, and windpants.

Huron County OPP Crime Unit Detective Sergeant Mike McCabe stated in an news release, "We remain optimistic a family member, friend, acquaintance, former co-worker, or former classmate will hear about this investigation and will come forward to help us with this investigation. Our priority is finding this man’s next of kin and we are confident it will happen."
