Newly Renovated Benmiller Community Hall Celebrated

Huron Bruce politicians helped celebrate the reopening of Benmiller Community Hall.

MP Ben Lobb says the project was made possible with $175,000 in federal funding, and a $100,000 Ontario Trillium grant.

MP Ben Lobb highlighted federal funding for the project including $50,000 through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF), $100,000 from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program and $25,000 through the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

The ribbon cutting marked the completion of extensive upgrades and renovations to improve accessibility.

That includes a new lift, accessible washrooms, and a ramp to the lower level.

A new roof, siding and belfry will update the look of the hall that was built in 1880 as a one room school house.

In the late 1960s, it was purchased by the Canadian Order of Foresters who ran it until 2011 when the Foresters gave the building and grounds to the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

The township has been running the facility as a Community Hall ever since.

The project was also supported by local fundraising events.
