New Term Begins At Clinton's REACH Centre

The REACH Centre in Clinton will be welcoming new students today.

Academic Program Coordinator Sharon McMaster says they now have courses with the University of Guelph.  She explains they've had the Horse Handlers certificate program for seven years now and this year they've added the two-year Associate Diploma of Equine Care and Management.

McMaster says between the two courses they're expecting 65 to 70 students and they come from all over Ontario as well as from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

McMaster says those students move into the Clinton area for the full school year. The need for housing for students has grown so much this year they've created a new student services coordinator who will prepare a list of housing options as well as reach out to the community, so they can meet the demands of new students.

"They're coming from all areas of Ontario. We also have students coming from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta, so we're pulling from all across Canada for these programs and they're all moving to Clinton for their time at school,” says McMaster. "And our student services coordinator is working on developing some housing listings and reaching out to the community to find more accommodations so there's more variety for students and of course we need a higher volume of rental facilities."
