The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario was in Kincardine on Tuesday to open up a new skiing and snowshoeing trail built by local volunteers.
Elizabeth Dowdeswell cut the ribbon to open the new trail at Stoney Island Conversation Area, which was quickly traversed by several local schoolchildren, despite a light snowfall and frigidly-cold temperatures.
The Queen's Representative in Ontario was invited by the local ski club after a group of volunteers cut a new ski-and-snowshoe trail through a historic town property. The area's more than 7 km of trails wind through the woods along the lakeside property.

"It's not only keeping up physically but more and more we are discovering the link between mental wellness and physical activity," said Dowdeswell.
She also came up to meet with Kindardine's mayor.
"Often municipalities are the forgotten level of government, yet they're the level of government that's closest to people, so I like to come out and do civic visits," she says.
The meeting with Kincardine mayor Anne Eadie followed a lunch at the Municipal Centre.
