Engineers To Study Crosswalks For Blyth

A Blyth resident and cycling safety advocate is pleased with the response from Huron County council to her request for crosswalks in Blyth. There are no crosswalks in the village right now.

Julie Sawchuk says there are many attractions in Blyth on both sides of the main street, and people continually cross the street from one end of the town to the other.

"We have nothing, and people jaywalk when they cross the street, every time they cross the street so we need to do something to make it legal, and safe for people to cross the main street, Queen St., in Blyth."

Sawchuk said the new crosswalks in Clinton are good but she asked that some form of audible signal be included. She added that would also be very helpful to people with visual impairments.

Sawchuk did not specify where she would like the crosswalks because she said that would be up to the engineers. County council requested a report from staff on suggestions.
