Mail stolen in Goderich, community mailboxes damaged

The OPP are asking for help from the public to solve a series of thefts and mischief at several community mailboxes in Goderich.

Since October 24, the OPP have investigated a dozen cases where community mailboxes and apartment building mailboxes have been vandalized in Goderich. Four cases have been reported to police this week.  Three other cases of the theft of parcels from residential mailboxes have been investigated.

Community mailboxes on Brimicombe Crescent, Balvina Drive, Bethune Crescent, Beilby Street, Warren Street, Bennett Street, Huckins Street and Mitchell Street have been targeted along with communal mailboxes at apartment buildings on Picton Street and Britannia Road.

Police ask that if you see any suspicious activity or suspicious individuals near community mailboxes, report it to police as soon as possible.

Huron OPP offer the following tips:

- Collect your mail daily. - Where possible consider delivering parcels to your work address if you won't be around during the day. - If you will be away, use a hold mail service to suspend delivery until you return. - When you move, file a change of address with Canada Post. - Advise banks and other companies of your new address. - If your mail fails to arrive, contact the senders to ensure they have the correct mailing address. - Report any mail related concerns such as an overturned or vandalized mailbox to Canada Post Customer Service at 1-800-267-1177.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents should contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-8314.
