The Township of North Huron is looking to expand its Community Improvement Plan to include grants for structural upgrades for downtown businesses including improving accessibility.
Huron County Planner Laura Simpson said she was directed by council this week to plan a public meeting on the new program.
"As part of the new amendment... we're looking to add a second program," Simpson said. "So not just exterior and facade renovations but structural, interior renovations as well so that would also contribute to improving accessibility."
North Huron received a provincial grant for $42,000 and they are looking to use up all of that money. Right now they are offering businesses on the main streets of Blyth and Wingham up to $10,000 or 50 per cent of a project's cost for facade improvements.
Details on when the public meeting on the structural program will be published in the local newspapers and the ads will also include instructions on how to apply.
