Local environmental group providing information on carbon tax benefits

Green Goderich has joined a Provincial public information campaign to promote the benefits of a carbon tax in combating climate change.

Co-Chair Betty Durst says she believes a lot of people don't understand that there is a rebate.

“I think that a lot of people don't understand that there is a rebate and actually 80 per cent of us will get more on the rebate than we pay on the carbon tax at the gas pumps over the year.”

Durst adds she's personally very upset that her tax dollars are going to the messages that the government supports.

“I'm personally really upset that my tax dollars are going to the messages that the government supports. On their stickers at the gas pumps they only talk about the price of the tax, they don't talk about the benefits. There's a lot of information missing.”

Durst adds, they want to make it very clear they are a non-partisan group and believe that all parties and all Canadians should be concerned about the climate change crisis.

Green Goderich will have a booth at the Farmers’ Market on the Square each Saturday until Thanksgiving weekend.
