The Community Drug and Alcohol Strategy will host a series of town hall meetings across Grey and Bruce to talk about the current opioid situation.
The meetings are being held in an effort to break down some barriers and engage in some productive discussions.
People who have experienced the opioid epidemic first-hand will be sharing their story. The public will have an opportunity to rotate from station to station to speak directly with various experts.
They can talk to police, EMS, Public Health and Mental Health and Addiction Services.
The first session is October 1 in Owen Sound at City Hall.
“We want to share current information, efforts and interventions that are underway to aid in the opioid epidemic that is affecting us locally as well as nationally and worldwide,” said Public Health Harm Reduction Manager Ian Reich. “It is important for us to share the truths about drug use, addiction and the challenges associated with it. We need to ensure the public is aware that addiction is a health issue, and as such, a health lens must be applied to aid in the situation.”
The four meetings are all scheduled in October on Tuesdays, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No registration is needed, light refreshment will be served.
