Local CUPE members engaged in a work to rule campaign

About 200 members of CUPE in Huron and Perth have joined 55-thousand Ontario school support staff across the Province in a work to rule campaign after contract talks with the Province broke down.

District 3615 President, Joe Tigani, says local members include office workers, and early childhood educators and educational assistants.

“I would suggest it would be members not doing things that are outside of the scope of what they should be doing, extra work, overtime, things that are well above and beyond what they're being paid to do on a daily basis.”

Tigani says the hope is that this will be the first step in a process that leads to a reasonable collective agreement and they taking it one day at a time.

“So as of 12:01, CUPE engaged in a work to rule action, which is a result of on-going and I would say, unproductive contract negotiations with the crown and the trustees and the OSBC and CUPE led us to this point.”
