The warden of Huron County has been acclaimed as the new chair of the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus for the next year.
Jim Ginn is the first warden from Huron County to become chair of the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus, which includes all fifteen counties in Southwestern Ontario and represents about three and a half million people.
Ginn said a lot of what the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus does is advocate for issues that matter in rural Ontario.
“So there's a number of issues. Obviously broadband, transportation, long term care homes, are some of the big ones that we would like the Province to give our area some help on them.”
Ginn added they do have a chair at the AMO meetings and that gives them some influence with the province. Ginn said two provincial cabinet ministers attended the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus meeting last week.
“But at the [recent] ROMA conference when the caucus met, there was probably 10 cabinet ministers in there, so it gives us a lot of access to the people in power and, you know, explain what we see in the rural parts of Ontario.”
