The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is advising of the potential for frazil ice to form at the mouth of the Nine Mile River.
The conservation authority issued a flood outlook statement on Friday that said the sudden blast of arctic air, combined with open water may cause frazil ice to form. That in turn may result in rising water levels upstream.
While there is no ice jamming at this time, ice jams could form rapidly. The high level of Lake Huron could mean more severe flooding than in the past.
Everyone is reminded not to drive or walk through flooded areas and stay away from slippery and unstable stream banks.
The weather is expected to turn relatively warmer late tomorrow so that should alleviate the risk of frazil ice formation.
