Huron County will allow a flag recognizing June as Gay Pride Month to fly in front of the courthouse and the health unit building.
However, requests to hang banners on the courthouse and make an official declaration were turned down because of current bylaws in place.
The requests came from Huron Perth Public Health Community Developer Bonnie Baynham.
Baynham had asked that the month of June be declared Gay Pride Month and that a banner bearing the message "Pride - Love is Love" be hung at the courthouse on the Square.
Warden Jim Ginn said staff informed council that couldn't be done.
"Staff informed council that our procedural bylaw does not allow proclamations or declarations, so we didn't approve that part. Also, our staff informed us that banners on the courthouse have damaged part of the building before, so we didn't go with that," said Ginn.
Council did approve flags to be raised in front of the courthouse and the health unit building at the Huronview site.
