Environment Canada issued tornado watches and warnings through parts of the region as a fast moving system rolled through parts of Huron and Perth counties.
A tornado warning was issued for southern areas of Perth County just after 12:50 p.m. Monday as severe thunderstorms watches and warnings blanketed the area. At 1 p.m., the tornado warning expanded to northern areas of Perth County including Listowel.
Environment Canada did confirm, through a storm spotter, a tornado four kilometres north of Mitchell that had been tracking east with wind gusts up to 90 km/h. There was also some tree damage.
The tornado warning ended just before 1:20 p.m.
Thunderstorm watches and warnings also covered northern areas of Perth County and Huron County and northern areas of Wellington.
Earlier in the morning a tornado watch was issued for southern areas of Huron but that was short lived.
Strong thunderstorms over southern Lake Huron were expected to approach the shoreline between Grand Bend and Bayfield, the cell that triggered the alerts from Environment Canada.
A Special Weather Statement was also issued early Monday morning but ended just before 12:30 p.m.
