Five employees from Compass Minerals in Goderich self-isolating

The parent company of the salt mine in Goderich says five employees are self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

In a statement released to CKNX News on Tuesday, Compass Minerals says any employee who tests positive, or who is identified through contact tracing for potential exposure, is to immediately quarantine.

That is regardless of whether or not they are symptomatic.

“As an essential business, we have been closely monitoring the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the region and will continue to follow the numerous protocols we enacted roughly 10 months ago, such as staggered shift times and restricted crew sizes to enable social distancing, mandatory mask requirements, temperature testing and increased professional sanitation of high-traffic areas," the statement reads.

"We are also in communication with the Huron-Perth Health Unit and the Ministry of Labour to ensure all necessary steps are being taken to limit further spread. Any employee who tests positive or who is identified through contact tracing for potential exposure, regardless of whether or not they are symptomatic, is required to immediately quarantine in accordance with provincial and county public health guidance. The health and safety of our employees is and will remain our primary focus.”
