Saugeen Connects is accepting applications for its annual Summer Student Start-Up program.
Back in 2019, Saugeen Connects Partnership, which consists of Brockton, Hanover, Minto, Wellington North and West Grey, along with the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation, launched the Summer Start-Up Program. It allows youth in the area to start their own summer business. Unfortunately, the 2020 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19, but this year it is back and available to all students in grades 6-12 to apply and potentially run a business during the summer break. Applicants are required to submit a relaxed business plan, and successful applicants get $150 to help get their business idea started or expanded.
Students can earn a bonus $150 if they post a photo on social media engaged in their business and use the hashtag #saugeenssup and send in a final report. Saugeen Connects is also looking for local businesses and corporations to help sponsor the program. Applications are being accepted until 4:30 p.m. on May 7th, and successful applicants will be notified on May 28th.
