Province investing in new training program in Midwestern Ontario

The provincial government is helping to support a new training program in Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce counties in the construction sector.

Alongside the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, Ontario is helping set up the new SkillsAdvance Ontario project.

The new training initiative will work closely with local employers to "skill up" workers in the area and potential job seekers.

The official project release states that the project will "provide Training to be delivered in-person and online between the Four County Labour Market Planning Board and LIUNA 1059, with work placements in Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce Counties."

"Families in our area will benefit from this funding," said Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece. "It will help us build the skilled workforce we need. I want to congratulate the Four County Labour Market Planning Board on their excellent work and their successful proposal."

The project is part of the provincial government's COVID-19 action plan which includes training and skills development for workers.

"This is great news for all employers and residents of Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth counties. As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, these kinds of skills development and training programs will take on a greater importance for our local work force," added Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

“The Four County Labour Market Training Board has a fantastic track record for providing key educational and training courses for workers in Huron-Bruce and beyond. I am positive that this new program, which will offer soft skill, sector-focused essential skill and technical skill training sessions, will be another successful one for future employees and employers” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce.
