Three local festivals receive provincial funding

Three local festivals in the Huron-Bruce area are receiving financial support from the province.

In a release, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson shared that through the Reconnect Festival and Event Program, three popular local events in her riding are getting much needed funding to help them come back strong from the pandemic. Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest is getting nearly $42,000, Kincardine’s Lighthouse Blues Festival will be receiving almost $50,000 and the Huron Waves Music Festival will be receiving $42,500.

The release states that this one-time funding boost is more than double what is usually given out to local festivals and events from the province in an effort to "ensure the long-term success of the festival and event sector while helping municipalities and organizations deliver innovative and safe experiences."

“Tourism and special events have been hit really hard during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Thompson says. “That’s why it is vital that we support these events to help keep them operating. They are popular with both visitors and residents alike and provide a positive economic boost to the host communities and the surrounding area.”
