Huron County's Director of Social and Property Services presented the county's Housing Renewal Plan to county council recently.
Barb Hall says the purpose of the plan is to identify opportunities to create more affordable housing units.
"The purpose of the plan is to identify opportunities to create more affordable housing units, to ensure that the county maintains a series of shovel-ready properties for housing investment and to position the county to respond to grant opportunities for affordable housing that come our way."
So Hall says, they'll now analyze the current stock of county owned housing properties and go from there.
"We'll analyze the current stock of county owned housing properties and we'll identify strategies and recommendations, increasing the number of housing units through intensification of existing properties and acquisition of new properties, additional strategies for incorporating affordable units."
Hall adds, the county, under the local housing corporation, currently owns fifteen apartment buildings scattered throughout the county and they own 84 family units, comprised of either row housing, semis or single detached dwellings as well. Work on the project is scheduled to get underway in December of this year, with a final report expected sometime in mid-2022.
