Ribbon cutting at new Westinghouse Canada Port Elgin office

A Ribbon Cutting Officially opened Westinghouse Canada's Port Elgin office space Thursday. The office has ten fulltime employees, with room for over 20 workers.

Westinghouse will manage Bruce Power drawdown contracts, onsite presence and logistics, and will be the project management office to support all Bruce Power contracts.

“Westinghouse continues to leverage our innovative solutions and growing local CANDU expertise to help Canada reach net zero by 2050,” said Edouard Saab, President of Westinghouse Canada.

“It’s exciting to see another clean energy sector supplier land in the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties,” said Bruce Wallace, President and CEO of the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII). “The Westinghouse decision underscores that the nuclear industry is a major economic driver for Ontario. And these investments in nuclear not only contribute to strengthening an emissions-free electricity grid but also create jobs and greater spending right here in our region.”

The Clean Energy Frontier program at NII is funded by Bruce County and Bruce Power and is an evolution of the Nuclear Economic Development and Innovation Initiative, which formed in 2016.

“The Westinghouse team is already hard at work across Canada to implement innovative solutions that range from improving energy efficiency and worker safety to elevating site productivity,” said Mike Rencheck, President and CEO of Bruce Power. “It’s companies like Westinghouse who will support our clean energy goals, ensuring sustainability and strong collaboration for years to come.”

“As nuclear suppliers continue to secure office, warehouse and manufacturing space in the region, the County continues to see many direct and indirect benefits,” said Bruce County Warden Janice Jackson. “Since 2016, we’ve had more than 60 nuclear suppliers land in the tri-county region. This investment into our area means job creation, assessment growth and support for our small business community.”
