Huron County libraries looking to change operating hours

Huron County is looking at changes to the hours at some of its libraries.

County Librarian Beth Rumble says a few years ago they were doing work out in the community and heard some feedback.

“One thing we heard was barriers to service with our library hours. There was an interest in more morning hours or a greater variety of hours across the whole week. So we knew that there were changes that needed to be made and so, as we open coming out of the pandemic, we're looking to finalize what those future hours will look like.”

Rumble says they’re looking at making some changes. “Some of the things we're looking at are expanding our Saturday hours as far as the weekend day that we would highlight for people to come and look at the branch and then we've added some switches where there's some morning hours added and maybe the branch closes a bit earlier in the evening.”

Rumble says there were also some branches that closed over the lunch hour and that will be eliminated to make it more convenient for the public to visit.

Rumble says those proposed changes are preliminary and the next step is to determine how they would impact staffing, so they'll do that over the next couple of months and then finalize the hours they'll be open to the public.
