COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the province, with large spikes in cases also being observed in Huron and Perth Counties.
That’s why the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says holiday gatherings should be limited, and public health measures need to be followed.
“The most important thing is to stay home if you’re ill. Don’t attend the gathering even if your symptoms are mild. And when you’re at a gathering, keep your two metre distance from other people, wear masks indoors, use frequent hand hygiene, all the same public health fundamentals.”
Dr. Klassen adds you should try to limit your interactions with people outside of your household.
“It’s a good idea for everybody to ask themselves how many social interactions and gatherings they need, and which ones are the most important. The more contacts we have, the higher the risk of transmission.”
She adds gatherings have a much lower risk of transmission if everyone present who is eligible is vaccinated.
As of Monday, Huron Perth Public Health was reporting 115 active cases of COVID-19 in the area and five active outbreaks in local schools and three outbreaks in workplaces.
