Huron Shores Hospice received an additional $47,500 from the Ontario government to offset the costs of COVID-19.
This is a 45 percent increase from the previous year, bringing the 2021-22 funding total to $152,500.
"We are truly grateful to the Ontario government for their continued investment in hospice care in our community and the recognition of how the additional costs for staffing and infection protection has impacted our budget during the pandemic," said the Executive Director of Huron Shores Hospice, Cathy Herbert.
"This increase will cover our additional costs, alleviating the need to increase our community fundraising efforts at a time when fundraising has been difficult," Herbert added.
Huron Shores Hospice is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led, community-funded residential hospice, providing free quality end-of-life care, to residents of Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss, and surrounding areas.
"Continued support for Huron Shores Hospice is very important because our government values the incredible, caring environment it provides people looking for sincere and focused end of life care," said Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, who was on hand to present the funds to the hospice.
The money was announced late in 2021, as part of the government’s $23 million investment in hospice care across the province.
