Local MP supports peaceful protests but not breaking the law

A local MP is calling on the blockades at the borders and in downtown Ottawa to end.

In a statement last night, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff said he has received a lot of phone calls and emails from constituents with various opinions on the protests.

He says based on those conversations, he suspects many did not hear his public statement at the end of January supporting peaceful protests in Canada.

He also emphasized that protesters should not break the law and if they do they should expect possible legal repercussions.

The statement also included the remarks of MP Michael Chong who spoke during the House of Commons emergency debate Monday night. He called the right to protest a fundamental freedom but said no one has the right to blockade.

The Conservative member of Parliament tabled a motion Thursday for the government to table a plan to lift all federal mandates and restrictions by February 28th.
