The Municipality of South Huron is looking at improving active transportation.
Strategic Initiatives Manager, Scott Currie, says council recently approved an application to Infrastructure Canada to apply for an Active Transportation grant.
If approved, the grant money will be used to conduct a visioning exercise on how they can maximize their active transportation corridors, including trails.
“So the purpose of the plan will be to look at what trails and corridors we have now and how we can maximize both their use and their connectivity," said Currie. "So we want to look at how we can move people around efficiently within the municipality, try and reduce emissions wherever possible, make transportation corridors safer if possible.”
Uses would include walking and cycling.
Currie says they're asking for $24,000 to put a plan together.
He says they hope to hear back by this fall and if their application is approved, the project will get underway next year.
