Indigenous leaders, federal and provincial dignitaries joined Tuesday's official welcome ceremony as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall arrived in Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed Prince Charles, and Camilla, as they kicked off a reconciliation based tour of the country.
"Your Royal Highnesses, during your three days here, as you travel from the east coast, to the capital, to Canada's north, I know you'll be meeting people from all walks of life to hear their stories. They are people who, like the royal family, have dedicated themselves to service, to bettering the world around them," he said.
The prince and duchess are in Canada on a three-day tour that also includes stops in Ottawa and the Northwest Territories
Trudeau noted, "The Crown has been a foundational part of our past, and this year, for the first time, Canadians are able to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of our Sovereign, and as we do, it strikes me that throughout Her Majesty's over 70 year reign, Canada has come into its own."
The Royal couple arrived in St. Johns Newfoundland, where they were welcomed with a military band, and crowds of school children.
