Wingham's Terry Fox Run being passed on to local cancer survivors

Two Wingham men are making sure the Terry Fox legacy continues locally.

Scott Miller and Steve Jackson are both testicular cancer survivors.

Miller says when they heard the current organizers of the Terry Fox Run in Wingham were stepping down, they decided to step up.

"When we heard that Dale and Linda Edgar, who had been running it the past 34 years, were ready to step down, Steve and I looked at each other and thought this is too important of an event to not continue," said Miller.

Over those 34 years, the Edgar's were able lead an event that saw over half-a-million dollars raised for the Terry Fox Foundation.

And in 2019, Dale and Linda were recognized by the foundation for their efforts.

Miller says there will be more information in the coming months to set the stage for this year's event on Sunday, September 18.

"The goal is to have a full, in-person event. I think there is a desire, a thirst out there for people to get back together and reconvene for the causes that really matter to them. It's been a successful event in Wingham for a lot of years," added Miller.

At this time work is being done to create a social media image for the local event but anyone interested in volunteering can reach out to Scott at scott.miller@bellmedia.ca.

And broader information can be found at terryfox.org.

"I think every year is special, but this year, again with the hope of returning to in-person, and the new, refreshed motto of 'I am not a quitter', the Terry Fox Run should be extra special."
