The Sauble Area Medical Clinic has donated $63,700 to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.
That will help buy a new Point of Care Ultrasound for the Critical Care Unit (CCU) at the Owen Sound Hospital.
It can be used to diagnose a number of conditions at the patient’s bedside which promotes faster treatment and better outcomes
A media release said it could mean fewer tests, less radiation, and less movement throughout the hospital.
It can be used to check fluid levels in the lungs, heart obstructions, to help place central lines for fluid or medication delivery, and more.
The Sauble Area Medical Clinic has now donated a total of $1,063,700 to three Grey Bruce Health Services hospitals in Owen Sound, Southampton, and Wiarton for a variety of medical imaging equipment.
The money comes from the sale of the organization’s building in November of 2021 to the town of South Bruce Peninsula.
In 2002 a group of volunteers began raising funds to secure a location on which to erect the Medical Clinic in Sauble Beach.
In 2009, the medical clinic was opened and the Sauble Family Health Team moved into the building where it still resides today.
“We want to give a big thank you to all who have supported the Sauble Area Medical Clinic over the past nineteen years,” said Chairman Cecil Groves. “We’re glad that these funds can continue to support medical care in our community.”
“This is an incredible legacy that the clinic is leaving behind,” said Dr. Colin McIver, Chief of Medical Imaging at Grey Bruce Health Services. “The impact of these gifts will be felt by everyone in Grey-Bruce and we are so thankful to all those who have been involved with the clinic since its beginning.”
