Bluewater council is turning to the residents of Bayfield to help them review their noise by-law.
Bayfield ward councillor Bill Whetstone says some residents near the downtown area have complained about noisy music from some of the bars in the area and they've asked council to address the situation.
Whetstone says one social media post claimed the goal was the get rid of the music entirely, but he says that has never been part of the conversation.
“So staff was bringing forward some potential updates to by-laws, compared to what other municipalities are doing and potential solutions to help come up with a fair approach, because obviously we have to make sure that we're going to keep music going downtown. It's not about banning music by any means,” explained Whetstone.
Whetstone says he doesn't know how long it will take for the suggestions to come back to council, but it could be mid-summer before they make a decision.
“A draft by-law did come to council and now council has sent it on to the public for consultation and to get some feed back, there's various things on there, not just for the downtown, and then we will take a look at it and make a decision based on what we hear.”
