The newest exhibit at the Huron County Museum is a travelling exhibit from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
The exhibit, called Speaking of Democracy, was Launched in 2019 as an art exhibit in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Queen’s Park.
It was developed as a response to the observation both at home and abroad, that many people were starting to express concerns about the future of democracy and its foundational institutions.
Senior Curator, Elizabeth French Gibson, explains the exhibit is a series of 28 quotes from politicians, journalists, authors, activists about democracy, either the definition of democracy, or opposition to democracy or the responsibility of democracy.
“It's a series of quotes that are really thought-provoking, whether you agree, or not, with what the person is saying, each one of them makes you think about democracy and maybe what your own thoughts are. And that's what the exhibit was meant to provoke, to make us think about it and then, hopefully, act upon those thoughts,” said Gibson.
The Speaking of Democracy exhibit arrived at the Museum this past Monday and will be there until July 10th.
