The Grey Bruce Health Unit says most of the country continues to see a significant shortage of infant formula designed for babies with food allergies and certain medical conditions.
The bulletin says that there is no current shortage of regular infant formula in Canada, and because of that, the process for accessing these products will be different, with specialty formula now only available from behind the counter.
Limits in Canada are expected to be put in place on cow's milk formula in order to avoid panic buying.
The note comes as families in the United States continue to scramble to find baby formula after a national product recall triggered empty store shelves, higher prices and retailers limiting the sales of scarce products. More than 40% of baby formula in the U.S. was out of stock at the beginning of May.
