It's almost deer season; here's what you should know

Deer hunting season begins on Monday for parts of the area.

There are steps gun hunters and recreational trail users should take to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Trail users should avoid using trails from dawn and dusk, and anytime that visibility is limited. They should also wear “hunter orange” (hat, vest, scarf, etc.), and use hunter orange on pets as well. Avoid beige, brown, white, or green clothing. Also, keep pets on a leash at all times while using the trails.

Hunters should; avoid hunting along trails and in areas with active trail use, be aware that you may be sharing the forest with other hunters and trail users, and never shoot unless they are absolutely sure of their target and what is beyond it.

In Bruce County and southern Grey County, deer season takes place from November 7 to 13. Rifles, shotguns, muzzle-loading guns and bows are accepted. In northern Grey County, you can hunt from November 21 to 27, and December 5 to 11 using muzzle-loading guns and bows.

In Huron and most of Perth County, deer season takes place from November 7 to November 13, and December 5 to December 11. The bow hunt began October 1st.
