The Town of Minto will hold an unveiling ceremony for the renovated Palmerston Arena on the morning of Saturday, November 12.
Director of Community Services Matthew Lubbers says a number of major upgrades were made to the facility.
"The big one was putting four new dressing rooms in to compliment the existing ones. We were also able to build a new ball diamond, and we are also in the process of putting up LED lighting on the existing diamond at the fairgrounds there," said Lubbers.
Renovations include a new entrance, corridor, accessible washroom and the four new dressing rooms. Lubbers says government funding made it possible after applying for funding in 2019 through the Canada Infrastructure Programs's Community, Culture and Recreation Stream.
"Construction started this year and with help from the federal and provincial governments, as well as our municipal contribution, the project's total value was around 2.415 million dollars. So our contribtion was about $650,000," adds Lubbers.
Lubbers says the renovations are a big boost to the residents and recreational users of Minto, and having a new ball diamond is very welcome.
"We're gonna have a ribbon cutting, and give a tour of the new rooms and the new entrance, and it's quite the addition and we're very happy with the results. Looking forward to a good day. These improvements have been of great benefit to the Town of Minto. It's great having that third diamond for tournaments. It's gonna be great to have these additional, much larger rooms for hockey and broom ball tournaments, and other major functions there," Lubbers shared.
The ribbon cutting and tours of the arena begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 12.
