The Hanover Fire Department has received a grant to help purchase potentially life-saving equipment.
A grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded Hanover Fire Department $20,450 to allow it to purchase a drone with a thermal imaging camera, two additional flight batteries, and a searchlight and broadcast system.
"The drone will be used to support fire ground operations, relaying important information regarding fire growth and heat to the Incident Commander. It will also increase firefighter safety in overwatch positions, allowing the department to keep an eye on firefighters working in hazard zones," a statement from the Hanover Fire Department said.
Additionally, the drone can be used in rescue incidents, using the thermal imaging to locate a person in distress.
“We are extremely grateful to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada and our local Firehouse Subs in Owen Sound for providing us with this grant and positively impacting our community,” said Hanover Mayor Sue Paterson. “We are so grateful to be given the tools needed to continue to keep the citizens of Hanover safe and protected.”
