Drivers urged to slow down in blowing snow

Updated at 8:03 a.m.

As the wind begins to ease and the plows continue to make progress, road conditions are improving across midwestern Ontario.

The Bruce County Roads Department is reporting mostly bare and dry to bare and wet conditions with fair to good visibility.

In Grey County, road crews are reporting mostly bare and wet to bare and dry conditions. The Hanover and Durham area does have a lot of snow covered sections. Visibility is fair for the most part.

The Ministry of Transportation is reporting Highway 6 up the Peninsula is snow covered with reduced visibility. All other roads under its jurisdiction are partly to mostly snow covered to fair to good visibility.

In Huron and Perth, roads are bare and wet to partly snow covered and slippery. Visibility is good.

There is a winter weather travel advisory in effect for most of the region with the exception of northern Grey County and the Bruce Peninsula where there is a snowsquall warning in effect. Drivers are urged to slow down and make sure their headlights and taillights are illuminated.

There are no road closures to report. There is one school closure, however. Peninsula Shores District School in Wiarton is closed because of a power outage. Students are to switch to remote learning where possible.
