New, technology-driven murals to be unveiled in Clinton

The anticipated new murals in Clinton will be unveiled on Thursday, November 9.

The launch party is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Clinton Town Hall.

"We have invited the artists as well as the public to come and see the murals that are tarped over," said Angela Smith, community improvement coordinator for the Municipality of Central Huron. "We have eight in the downtown, three of which have tarps on them right now."

One of the murals has been updated to give it a new feel and another has been completely restored. What's unique about these murals is they contain some magic.

"When you are on the sidewalk and you look at the mural, you see the picture that's in front of you, but if you hold your phone up to it, the mural comes to life," said Smith.

She calls it a mini movie. Things move and change, while teaching the admirer some of Clinton's history.

"I'm most excited about seeing old art in new eyes," she said. "The murals have been up for about 25 years and people don't even see them when they drive by or walk by."

Smith said she's looking forward to bringing them back to the forefront, while also getting new generations involved. The app that will allow you to see the pictures move is called "Artivive".

QR codes are with each mural for onlookers to scan and download. Once the app is installed, you can use it for all the murals in downtown Clinton.
