Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services (KFES) says a fire at the Kincardine Motel has been deemed not suspicious in nature.
The blaze was called in March 29 at 10:59 a.m., and required a two station response, with mutual aid from Ripley Huron Fire Department.
Crews battled the blaze in the motel, as well as in a travel trailer on the property.
“The weekend’s events really highlight the importance of being prepared for emergency situations,” said Matt Cottrill, acting fire chief for KFES. “Preparation can include checking those extension cords around your house, making sure they are still in good condition and that you’re not overloading wall outlets. Follow those manufacturer’s instructions and only use extension cords rated for their intended purpose.”
There were no reports of injuries. Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth was on scene to help provide 12 displaced tenants with emergency accommodations.
No damage estimate is available at this time. South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) and Westario Power provided support at the scene.
On March 30, Kincardine firefighters were called to a car fire on Queen Street, which was quickly extinguished. The cause was determined to be an engine component. No one was hurt.
“Being prepared for emergencies beyond the home is just as important, so having an emergency preparedness car kit that includes a fire extinguisher is also a great idea,” Cotrill said.
