UPDATE: Stratford Police investigating homicide in the city

The Stratford Police Service has provided an update regarding a "serious incident" in the city that has now been confirmed to be a homicide.

A release from the police service's "X" account, formerly known as Twitter, stated at 8:30 a.m. on October 15 that police were investigating a "serious incident" in the area of Ontario and King Streets in Stratford.

The police have now confirmed that the incident in question was a homicide. Police arrived at a residence on Ontario Street at 5 a.m., where they found an unresponsive 35-year-old female who had suffered a gunshot wound.

The female was rushed to Stratford General Hospital, where she later died from her injury.

A 41-year-old male was located at the scene and was arrested. He has since been charged by Stratford Police and was scheduled to appear in bail court.

Stratford Police Service have once again assured the public that this was an isolated incident and there remains no threat to public safety.

A police presence will continue to be in the area of Ontario and King Streets as the investigation continues.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
